Testimonials

‘John Land was the primary counsel involved with an action by a group of major retailers in support of a Commerce Commission action against the banks and other financial institutions in relation to credit card charges.   John did an amazing job in managing a disparate group of retailers in what was a very large and complex case.   John also led the negotiation of a settlement which all the members of the retail group were very happy with.   The legal and economic concepts were difficult to understand, but John was able to explain them in a very simple manner to the retailers.  He was also able to project manage the collection of evidence from a large group of different parties who were each very concerned to preserve their individual commercial confidentiality.   Overall the retail group was delighted with the way John handled this matter and with the final result.’

Tony Carter, Former Managing Director   Foodstuffs New Zealand

Richard McIntosh, General Counsel, AIA New Zealand

‘John, many thanks for all your hard work and that of your team as well. Your perseverance, patience and strategic prosecution of the case were instrumental in achieving the successful outcome.’

Rod Bordignon, Group Legal Manager- Corporate and Commercial, Woolworths Limited

‘Thank you sincerely for the success you achieved for Woolworths Ltd. and your hard work, dedication and tireless support throughout a very complex and lengthy assignment.’

Dhun Karai, Head of Group Financial Services, Woolworths Limited

'John Land represented Dymocks between 1998 and 2003 in relation to large and complex litigation which included hearings before the New Zealand High Court, the New Zealand Court of Appeal and ultimately, the Privy Council.
Dymocks succeeded fully in this litigation and also succeeded in a novel application prepared by John to have its costs paid by a third party which had funded the opposing litigant.
John not only displayed a very deep understanding of the law and the nuances of the case but also worked tirelessly at all times of the day and night to achieve the fine result that he did.
Dymocks had also retained senior counsel in the proceedings but it was in fact John who argued before the Privy Council the vital point upon which Dymocks ultimately succeeded in the substantive litigation.
John is one of the most competent and dedicated lawyers that I have encountered in my 44 year association with the law and I recommend him very highly.'

Andrew Forsyth, Director Dymocks Group and Former Partner Deacons (now Norton Rose Fulbright)

'In my capacity as the Managing Director for GJ Gardner Homes New Zealand I have needed both sound legal advice and also a business confidant to help me with a range of issues in running a business with the size and diversity of ours.  For over a decade John Land has fulfilled both those roles and I remain very thankful we met.  In my view John is not only an exceptional lawyer with great knowledge of the law but an astute individual in dealing with business matters in general. He communicates in a manner that has always allowed me to feel in control and very confident in our dealings and hence that I am making good decisions.  I know John is held in exceptionally high regard by his peers. He has an outstanding service ethic, and has displayed standards of absolute integrity and fairness that correspond well with the values I wish to operate under.  I do not give testimonials easily if at all but am genuinely privileged to do so on this occasion.  I have no hesitation in recommending John.'

Grant Porteous, Managing Director, Deacon Holdings Limited, Master Franchisee for GJ Gardner Homes, New Zealand
